How do I find a visa sponsorship job in the UK?

Start with employers that already hold a Skilled Worker sponsor licence, because only they can sponsor a visa. SkilledJobs checks every listed employer against the Home Office register of licensed sponsors, so you can search current vacancies at licensed sponsors, filter by occupation, city and salary, then confirm with the employer that the specific role is open to sponsorship before you apply.

Which jobs are easiest to get sponsorship for?

Roles where UK employers sponsor most often are in health and social care (nurses, care workers, senior carers), IT and software, engineering, construction trades, teaching, and hospitality (chefs). The common factor is an eligible occupation code and a salary that meets the threshold for that code. Most sponsoring employers in our data are NHS trusts, councils, care providers and recruitment agencies.

Which jobs are eligible for Skilled Worker sponsorship?

A job is eligible when its occupation code (SOC) is on the Skilled Worker eligible list and the salary meets both the general threshold and the going rate for that code. Some occupations on the Immigration Salary List have lower thresholds. Use our eligibility checker or the occupation pages to see the code, going rate and current threshold for a role.

Does a sponsor licence mean the employer will sponsor me?

No. A licence means the Home Office permits the employer to sponsor workers. It does not mean a particular vacancy is open to sponsorship or that the employer is sponsoring right now. Always confirm with the employer before applying.

How is this different from the GOV.UK register of licensed sponsors?

The GOV.UK register is a spreadsheet of organisation names with no jobs, locations or company detail. SkilledJobs matches that register to Companies House records and to live job listings, so you can see which licensed sponsors are actually hiring, where, and in which occupations. Listings refresh daily; our copy of the published register refreshes every week.

Can I get a UK job from abroad?

Yes. Both the Skilled Worker and Health and Care Worker routes are open to applicants outside the UK, and most overseas hires start that way. The employer must hold a sponsor licence, make the offer and assign a Certificate of Sponsorship; the worker then applies for the visa from their own country, usually after interviews held by video. Application fees, the Immigration Health Surcharge and decision times are published on GOV.UK.

What is the difference between Tier 2 and the Skilled Worker visa?

None in practice. The Skilled Worker visa replaced Tier 2 (General) on 1 December 2020, when the points-based system was reformed after Brexit, and licences granted under Tier 2 carried over, so the register of licensed sponsors is the same list people still call the Tier 2 sponsor list. The current rules, including the eligible occupation list, the salary thresholds and the RQF Level 6 skill requirement, belong to the Skilled Worker route and are published on GOV.UK.
